Local elasticity map and plasticity in a model Lennard-Jones glass.
In this work we calculate the local elastic moduli in a weakly polydispersed two-dimensional Lennard-Jones glass undergoing a quasistatic shear deformation at zero temperature. The numerical method uses coarse-grained microscopic expressions for the strain, displacement, and stress fields. This method allows us to calculate the local elasticity tensor and to quantify the deviation from linear e...
متن کاملMixing effects in glass-forming Lennard-Jones mixtures.
Mixing effects have been investigated from molecular dynamics simulations at constant number of particles, volume, and temperature on the Kob-Andersen glass-forming Lennard-Jones atomic mixture A(x)B(1-x) for 0 < or = x < or = 1 compositions. Upon cooling, crystallization is observed for x < or = 0.5 and x > or = 0.9 compositions. The crystalline states can be described by a quite complex coexi...
متن کاملOff-equilibrium effective temperature in monatomic Lennard-Jones glass.
The off-equilibrium dynamics of a monatomic Lennard-Jones glass is numerically investigated after sudden isothermal density jumps (crunch) from well equilibrated liquid configurations towards the glassy state. The generalized fluctuation-dissipation relation has been studied and the temperature dependence of the violation factor m is found in agreement with the one step replica symmetry breakin...
متن کاملRelation between local diffusivity and local inherent structures in the Kob-Andersen Lennard-Jones model.
We analyze one thousand independent equilibrium trajectories of a system of 155 Lennard-Jones particles to separate in a model-free approach the role of temperature and the role of the explored potential energy landscape basin depth in the particle dynamics. We show that the diffusion coefficient D can be estimated as a sum over contributions of the sampled basins, establishing a connection bet...
متن کاملThe Lennard-Jones–Devonshire cell model revisited
We reanalyse the cell theory of Lennard-Jones and Devonshire and find that in addition to the critical point originally reported for the 12−6 potential (and widely quoted in standard textbooks), the model exhibits a further critical point. We show that the latter is actually a more appropriate candidate for liquid-gas criticality than the original critical point. Typeset using REVTEX
